Dr. GarbileSir Ayurveda have potential to prevent a cancer and are various method which help to prevent a cancer. Now my Question is that1. How I will approach to M.D. Anderson Cancer Centre for integrative Research Project on Cancer Prevention through Ayurveda?2. What will be the area for Research Project on Cancer Prevention in integration in Western Medicine & Ayurveda?
Dr. Sharad Porte
01:44:47
ToDr. SudhaI am interested to participate in NCI Cancer Research Training Program as a participant and to conduct it in my university. Now my Question is that1. What is the procedure to participate in NCI Cancer Research Training Program as a participant and or to conduct it in my university ?2. What will be fees for to participate in NCI Cancer Research Training Program as a participant and or to conduct it in my university ?
Sudha Sivaram
01:46:42
Dr. Sharad Porte: Thanks for your question. I will speak to some of your points in my presentation
Pratibha Shah
01:50:26
You can make him co-host
Bhaswati Bhattacharya

As long as oncologists make statements about “what is true and not true” without having a wider understanding of treatments actually used successfully by humans around the world, they will dismiss any other model of care…. How do we surpass this unscientific, uncurious bias among oncologists who claim they are exploring other medical systems?
Madan Thangavelu
02:00:03
Ayurvedic Medicine - Can it be just Ayurveda and AYUSH Systems, can we do away with the ‘medicine’?
Jyoti Kode
02:08:25
Systematic approach and well designed study is what;s the need of an hour, for Ayurveda to succeed
Jayashree Joshi
02:12:00
Could you explain the term'spiritual pain' reported in one of the slides?
shubhada chiplunkar
02:17:41
You raised an important point about Assessment Criteria. In all different modalities e.g Ayurveda Homeopathy or any other modality these criteria may be very different from the ones you mentioned. How can these get integrated ?
Jayashree Joshi
02:17:42
Thank you!

Ayurvedic medicine has role in precancerous lesions ,during treatment and also in palliative care. What needs to be worked upon is their interference with conventional treatment and evaluation for side effects.
shubhada chiplunkar
02:22:35
WE have looked at cytokine biomarkers in a clinical trial on Obese individuals taking Panchakarma therapy . This study was done under Science Initiative in Ayurveda DST program .
DR JOBAN MODHA
02:24:58
Scientists at MD Anderson Cancer care did a lot of work on Ayurveda herbs at pre clinical level few years back. any updates ?
Pratibha Shah
02:26:21
None of the supplements listed by Dr. Lopez were Ayurvedic. Ayurveda formulations cannot be clubbed under the broad category of supplements.

02:26:26
Great presentation. I hope these types of exchange ultimately lead to what are the scientific or research training priorities so we can focus as a field.
JAI KINI
02:29:40
nice and informative presentation..
Dr Anagha Ranade
02:29:58
its a very interactive presentation sir.
Guido Pauli
02:30:47
@Pratibha Shah's comment: Yes, Dietary Supplements are not necessarily Ayurvedic medicines, but there is substantial amount of overlap often even congruence, e.g., in their production, quality control, standardization, research evidence. Also, as Bhaswati mentioned, in practice, the public performs a translation from one system into the other - if we want or not - which produces additional overlap.
Dr Anagha Ranade
02:30:50
I would like to know your views regarding per rectal nutrition in cachexia
Pratibha Shah
02:32:15
I feel the main barrier is lack of awareness of evidence of Ayurveda based solutions, rather than lack of it.

Bhaswati Bhattacharya
02:33:21
Agreed, Pratibha. But who is WRITING articulately about the “evidence of Ayurveda based solutions?”
Pratibha Shah
02:34:26
@Paulo oversight is needed for everything. But great opportunity lost not to look at Ayurveda as a vast robust time tested system.
Pratibha Shah
02:35:38
@Bhaswati collaborative meetings should hopefully lead to identifying who and how this work can be undertaken

Any of the Ayurvedic doctors could name 15-20 modalities and formulation algorithms used for cancer patients, and we could do a multi-centre observational study. We would have to use algorithms with significant benefit shoulders above the current ASCO standard of care so that scientists would take note.

Thanks, Dr. Modha. Your link led to 138 results, papers in the journal AYU. But who will translate the lingo that is in these papers so that conventional oncologists can understand...?
DR JOBAN MODHA

My suggestion is to have series of webinars both from scientists/ clinicians from India and other countries working in the field who have data to share and donework in the field of Ayurveda.

Good ideia

“Integrated Cancer Treatment & Research Centre”http://ayurved-for-cancer.org/in/ictrc/Adding to Dr Vaidya comments on the need for widening the search of evidence is important and widening the dialogue to draw in more players into this dialogue. Almost 15,000 document cases in Wagholi worthy of closer study. Perhaps this can be one of the aims of the proposed plan of action.
Ricardo Ghelman (CABSIN)
02:53:04
Thank you Dr Thangavelu
Madan Thangavelu
02:59:52
@ Dr SivaramPerhaps one avenue worthy of exploring further is to have a larger collaborative footprint in India, perhaps in collaboration with the proposed WHO Centre for Integrative Medicine planned in India.Such a set up will be a convenient way to reach the masses and cases in India and also a location for more partners from around the world to train in India.
mihir khambete
03:01:06
Are there any training or skill enhancement programs to enable individual and independent researchers to qualify to participate in these studies globally?
Bhaswati Bhattacharya
03:01:38
Whole systems research models and PCOR - patient-centred outcomes research needs to be better understood by both sides of researchers.
gabriel.lopez@mdanderson.org
03:03:16
Challenge will also be achieving consensus in the Ayurvedic approach which will be used as part of the intervention.
Bhaswati Bhattacharya
03:03:38
Wagholi is run by an NYU-trained oncologist who is using Ayurveda. Over 10,000 cases of INTEGRATIVE oncology and good follow-up beyond 5 years of cancer treatment.
Bhaswati Bhattacharya
03:04:50
@GLopez - consensus principles are easy when they are patient-centered and not molecule-entered.
Pushpa Tandon
03:04:51
The training programs can help an Ayurveda practitioners to collaborate with one of US institutions and train in current western clinical practice - making it easier to do studies in clinical Ayurvedic research as well
Alejandro Salicrup
03:06:13
Yes Pushpa, that is the goal and why included research-training program opportunities in this webinar
Pushpa Tandon
03:07:13
The training info is very important- and will help a dialogue between the two systems
Jyoti Kode
03:08:56
Agree with Dr Nagi Kumar. Many journals don't value data obtained on Ayurveda based drugs
Jyoti Kode
03:09:35
Publication in good journals will enhance importance to Ayurveda research
DR JOBAN MODHA
03:10:07
So called modern lifestyle and changing food habits (from staple food to packet food) has played very crucial role in increasing number of cancer in India and west. Need to work on basic policies as well.
Pushpa Tandon
03:10:47
And I am not sure if Ayurveda journals are in the NLM and as mentioned do not come up in searches - also the keywords and clinical terminology is different
Ricardo Ghelman (CABSIN)
03:12:12
I would like to know from the point of view of the Ayurvedic approach if the treatment of symptoms such as fatigue, pain, insomnia related to cancer, which are common clinical outcomes, varies if the patient has a Pitta or Vatha or Kapha constitution, if there is modification in orientation?
Ricardo Ghelman (CABSIN)
03:16:17
If an international collaborative project of Ayurveda in support of cancer in collaboration with NCI is designed, the Brazilian group would like to participate, including our National Cancer Institute of the Ministry of Health- ric.ghelman@gmail.com Congratulations Jeff and Alejandro for promoting this meeting.
Bhaswati Bhattacharya
03:16:32
@Pushpa - yes, several Ayurveda journals are indeed in pubmed and NLM.
DR JOBAN MODHA
03:17:43
ayujournal is pubmed indexed
Bhaswati Bhattacharya
03:19:14
@Dr. Ghelman - yes, indeed treatment of symptoms (fatigue, pain, insomnia related to cancer) are among the main indicators that tell when the treatment protocol needs to progress to the next stage. The constitution of VPK is also important, but the expression of symptoms as VPK is more important in the acute situation.
Sudha Sivaram
03:21:36
May be next time we can have a presentation from CCRAS and from colleagues at Wagholi?
Ricardo Ghelman (CABSIN)
03:22:39
I will contact you to inquire about research training. Thank you very much. Very important especially if we can respect the complexity of the topic with pragmatic clinical studies and can include the epistemology of whole medical systems like Ayurveda. I have a background in Anthroposophical Medicine with special interest in comparative studies between whole medical systems and with biological markers that can help us in individualizing patients - such as the exome, epigenome, proteome and microbiome.
